Getting To Know Eric Mitchell

Please tell us a little bit about your family.

Married to Kary for 28 years and have twins that are 23.

What do you love most about the real estate industry?

I love helping people buy and sell the American Dream! It’s an honor to be chosen out of the thousands of agents in the market. Truly, to get to know people deeply, their wants, dreams and desires is what makes real estate so special and unique.

What inspired you or led you to become a licensed real estate agent?

During my time at WYFF4 I developed a lead generation marketing strategy designed specifically for real estate. I presented this strategy to a number of brokerages but couldn’t get any buy in from anyone. At the time, our son Connelly was playing collegiate rugby and Kary and I were traveling around the country watching him. I was voicing my frustration to her and she said “you just need to get your license and do it yourself”. That was a “light bulb” moment for me! We spent nearly a year planning for my departure from the TV world in order take on this new venture…and here I am!

What inspired you or led you to join our C Dan Joyner Family?

I’ve known Danny Joyner since middle school. We weren’t close, by any means, but certainly knew each other and were friendly. During the time at WYFF4 I had called on C. Dan and Danny several times and sort of became closer friends. Danny was the first person I called when I decided to get my license. I met with several other firms in doing my due diligence but it came down to two things: 1) The PATHS program taught by Dan Bryant, and 2) Fritzi Barbour and her incredible coaching ability. Dan taught me what to do and Fritzi coached me into executing. Truly, those two coupled with the cast of incredible agents always willing to help is an inspiration not seen in other brokerages.

What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

The Carolina Drive In is one of my go-to favorites for lunch! I often run into my former WYFF4 family and usually meet friends there. The owner, Nick, has been a personal friend since middle school and is always a joy to see. For dinner I really like Augusta Grill. In my opinion, their tuna is the best I’ve had in the upstate!

How long have you lived or worked in the upstate of South Carolina?

We moved to Greenville in 1971 when I was 4. I’m never leaving! I tell people it’s the greatest city on the planet!

What is the neatest event you have been to here in the upstate?

There are so many neat events that it’s impossible to list them all! My immediate thought goes to Easter sunrise service at Symms Chapel (Pretty Place) when there were a few low lying clouds that spewed bright orange as the sun rose. It was amazing! Opening day at Fluor Field was pretty amazing as well. To see the city of Greenville rally, against the odds, and bring the stadium and new team to fruition was awesome. In 1984, my junior year of high school, JL Mann hosted Myrtle Beach in the AAA State football championship. Seeing Sirrine Stadium packed was a truly inspirational moment in my life. I saw letter jackets from all the local high schools pulling for JL Mann. We lost that game…but it still holds a fondness in my mind.

Give me three attributes that best describe YOU?

Energetic, Hard Working, Servant

What is your favorite movie of all time?

I used to say The Wizard of Oz but now I think Shawshank Redemption has become my favorite. I feel like I get a new lesson every time I watch it.

Do you have any advice that you consistently give to your clients?

This is an emotional thing. Try not to become too emotionally invested until closing is a sure thing! Real Estate is highly emotional and keeping emotions in check is key to keep from coming mentally unraveled.

What is something that you dream of doing one day?

My bucket list was complete and I’m working on a new one. We haven’t been to Italy or Spain and I’d like to go there some day soon. Travel is a passion and I’m sure there are other new places I’ll discover.

What would you consider to be your specialty?

Crazy-good communication! I have built my business on being nearly immediately available to my clients. “Time is of the Essence” is preached in real estate school and great communication is the key to ensuring a smooth transaction. It’s rare for me to not answer or at least respond almost immediately.

What is one thing about the Upstate that you believe sets it apart over everywhere else?

The people! Everywhere you go there are friendly people! The people is what completes the awesomeness of the offerings like restaurants, arts, entertainment and the awesome location that provides us 4 wonderful seasons. Friendly smiles and greetings enhance it all!

Outside of a personal family member, is there anyone that you look up to more than anyone else and is considered by you to be an inspiration?

I have to admit that Melissa Morrell is an inspiration! I’ve watched and tried to emulate what she does because I know it’ll make me a better agent.

Where would you like to be in your life in the next ten years?

I’d like to be in Greenville with my kids near by (or at least a short flight) enjoying being a top Realtor® and spending a few more weeks a year at the beach.

What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

I played defensive nose guard in high school.

Are there any places that you have visited that you would recommend for others to visit and enjoy?

New Zealand is an amazing place! The people are so friendly, the climate changes from region to region and the sights are spectacular!

If you could be famous would you be an actor, a musician, a politician, a sports star or anything else you would wish to be?

No question…musician! I play drums and would love the opportunity to play on a big stage.

What is your favorite time of the year?

I love all seasons and what they offer! Summer at the beach, football in the fall, skiing in winter, and the awakening in spring. It’s all very special!

What do you wish for your clients every time you begin to work with them?

I wish for them to become friends! To develop a lasting relationship!

How do you work on being better everyday (Personal and business)?

I think the two go hand-in-hand. Personally I exercise 4-5 days a week…which improves my mood…which enhances my business. I participate in F3 and YMCA activities for fitness. I also participate in the Next Level Discipleship men’s Bible study with 3Gen Ministries. This helps me stay grounded and in touch with who I am in my relationship with Jesus.

Name one thing that sets you apart from other agents in the Upstate.

My 28 year background in marketing and advertising. It’s allowed me to develop my business through specific marketing strategies.

What is your favorite social media platform?

Facebook for sure!

Finally, what makes a home a home to you?

A home is filled with loved ones and provides a place of peace, relaxation, and recharging.
