Thai Me A River

Thai Me A River….

If you have never tried Thai food or have been a little gun-shy of trying it allow me to help you open up your mind on the opportunity. Kannika’s Thai Kitchen is located at 430 Haywood Rd suite B, Greenville, SC 29607. Today I had a simple lunch, but oh my Lord….

The House Salad: contained spring mix greens, bean sprouts, fried tofu, red onions, tomato, cucumber and topped off with a house made Ginger Dressing (You can also get peanut dressing if you prefer). The freshness of this baby was incredible. Each ingredient enhanced the other for the perfect blend of mouth tasting awesomeness. Now I am keenly aware that one should not get too excited over a salad, HOWEVER, try this one and I have to believe you will leave whistling the famous Disney song Zippidy Doo Dah! The size was perfect for lunch and by the time I was done with the salad it was time for my soup. By this point, my tastebuds were literally on their little knees begging and crying for more. More awesomeness. More over the top flavor. More mind bending awareness of what was happening with every bite, chew, and swallow.

The Soup: Tom Kha with Coconut Milk broth which contains mushrooms, red onion, cilantro, and chicken for protein. I asked for medium spice. (Side Note – The Thai Heat index is much different than traditional heat indexes….be careful with your heat range otherwise you may have some serious issues later after your meal). This soup is unlike anything you will ever grace your lips and taste buds with. With every spoonful it felt like my tastebuds were so happy that they all got together and decided to have Rodeo Barrel Races across my tongue because they could not contain their own happiness. My eyes were practically popping out of their sockets every time I looked down at my bowl realizing that this perfect, wonderfully tasting chef’s masterpiece was mine….ALL MINE.

I was able to keep all of my audible sounds of happiness at a minimum for fear that I would freak out the lady patron sitting a few seats down from me (Thank God)….

So there you are…try it. But do NOT try to go on a Monday because they are closed. I could go on and on about other dishes that I have had at this awesome little Greenville restaurant…so do not just stop at the soup and salad. Other dishes I would recommend are the Mussaman and Red Curries as well as the Panang Curry. Your lips, tongue, and taste buds will give you a huge high five if you do.
